Alex Peter Pollema, of Fitchburg Wisconsin, fought a several weeks long battle with meningoencephalitis and passed away unexpectedly from a pulmonary embolism on Tuesday, August 27th, 2024. Alex was only 37 years of age. He was born on August 3, 1987 in Milwaukee Wisconsin to parents Steve Pollema and Cathy Maddox.
Alex grew up in Milwaukee WI, Mequon WI, and Libertyville IL. He attended High School at St Johns Northwestern Military Academy where he received the honorable rank of First Captain. After graduating in 2006, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he received a Bachelors in Economics. He went on to lead a successful career as a sales manager.
It was during his second year in college that he met the love of his life and future wife Andrea. They were married in 2014 and this past July celebrated their 10th anniversary. Alex and Andrea have three beautiful children, Margo (5), Lucy (2), and Hugo (12 weeks). His family and children were the light of his life. He was a patient and devoted father, and nothing brought him more joy than seeing the world through the eyes of his children.
Alex poured himself 100% into everything he did. He never shied away from a challenge. In childhood, he mowed the yard tirelessly with his bubble mower, made endless yards of paper chains, became an accomplished amateur magician, tried to break the world record for biggest rubber band ball, and threw himself into BMX biking with such fervor that he lost 3 of his front teeth to a half pipe. As an adult he decided to challenge his body to the limit, and competed and placed in several Ironman Triathlons. After the birth of his first child, he shifted his sites to music, and taught himself to play the guitar. He had a passion for bluegrass music, a love he shared with his sisters Abby Ferreira and Anna Pollema. Every Monday night you’d find him jamming at Muskey Lounge with his fellow bluegrass loving friends. He eventually found his voice, and started sharing his beautiful singing with those who were lucky enough to hear it.
Alex was a bright light in this world. He had a warm, deep laugh and an endless, if not a bit sarcastic, sense of humor. He loved deeply, and was not afraid to show it. He was kind, sensitive, and thoughtful always. He will be sorely missed by so many. The ripple of his love has spread infinitely, and will live on forever in all those whose lives he has touched.
