Daniel Harold Grear

Daniel Harold Grear Jr, age 82, passed away peacefully Friday, September 4, 2026, in Verona, WI. Dan was born December 14, 1943 in Riverside Illinois to Elinor (Velflick) Escher and Daniel H Grear Sr.

Dan graduated from Stockton, Illinois High School in 1961. Dan attended Iowa State University 1961 - 1965. Dan volunteered in the Peace Corp and was a member of the India 23 cohort that trained for and volunteered in urban community development in Mumbai (Bombay) from 1965-1967. Dan cherished his Peace Corp experience and shared stories and photos throughout his life. Dan completed a degree in History at Iowa State in 1968.

Dan was drafted into the United States Military and served in the 84th Artillery in the 5th U.S. Army from 1968-1970 and was honorably discharged as E5.

Dan held a long professional career in education as a 2nd grade teacher and later as an education technology specialist in the Kettle Moraine School District from 1977 until his retirement in 2004. Some of the experiences that Dan held dear during his tenure were leading the Space and Model Rocket club at Dousman Elementary School, serving a stint as assistant J.V. basketball coach at Kettle Moraine High School, and being president of the Milwaukee area Educational Computing Association. Dan also taught courses on using technology in education at Cardinal Stritch College, where he received a Master’s degree in Computers in Education in 1988.

Dan’s interests and hobbies included photography, playing the guitar, folk music- especially gravel voiced singer-songwriters, gardening, and enjoying all sports. During his retirement, he had canine companionship from Shanti 1 & 2, as well as keeping the birds and (mostly) squirrels well fed.

He is survived by his son, Daniel A Grear and 2 grandchildren, Adelaide and Anthony.

No services will be held at this time, but there will be a small gathering for family and close friends in the near future.
