Gwendolyn (Gwen) Louise King passed away peacefully at home, on July 31, 2025. Gwen was born in Spooner, Wisconsin on January 21, 1947, to parents, Harry and Gladys Dawn.

Gwen graduated from Hayward High School in 1965 and attended UW Whitewater, receiving a bachelor’s degree in education. Although Gwen only taught for a school year, she retired from the Sun Prairie Area School District on 2/3/2014 after 26 years of service as an Executive Assistant to the Superintendent.

After traveling to Turkey and the Azores (island near Portugal) with her first husband, David Gronke, due to his employment, Gwen returned to the United States with her boys in the early 80’s.

Gwen married William (Bill) King on December 23, 1988 after meeting at a dance studio where they both happened to be taking dance lessons. Gwen and Bill made their home in Waterloo, WI where they have lived since November 1989, making many lasting memories.

She is survived by her spouse, Bill King, her children, Nathan (Heather) Gronke, Benjamin (Heidi) Gronke, Robert (Jessica) King and Nicole (Ronald) Hendricks, grandchildren, Edward (Amber), Carolyn, Samantha (Cody), Ethan (Tara), Keyan, Lillian, Cooper and Hailey, sister, Kathleen Morse, brother-in-law, Wayne (Becky) King, sister-in-law, Kathryn (Richard) Mesner, and many nieces and nephews.

Gwen was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Gladys, brother, Wesley Dawn and brother-in-law Darwin Morse.

In retirement, Gwen enjoyed quilting, reading and spending time with her youngest grandchildren.

A celebration of Gwen’s life will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025. There will be a visitation from 9 – 11 am and a service at 11 am. Both the visitation and the service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 413 E Madison St, Waterloo, WI. Please join us for a light luncheon after the service. Donations can be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, or it’s attached Lutheran School.
