James Ahlgrim, aged 72, passed away suddenly at home March 3, 2026. Born September 4, 1953, in Edgerton, WI, to Donna and Charles Ahlgrim, he was a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, and friend.
Jim worked for the State of Wisconsin until his retirement. He loved music and amassed an extensive collection by a variety of artists, with particular favorites, the Beatles, and Celtic music. He loved sports--particularly watching his Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers. Most of all, he enjoyed family gatherings and games around the kitchen table and the laughter these times brought.
Having attained a PhD degree in history, Jim had a deep and abiding interest in the Civil War. He traveled to Gettysburg, and several other battlefields, and participated in several re-enactments.
He was a fan of the “old West” and lived out his interest through working on a friend’s Wyoming ranch in his earlier years. He loved “cowboy culture”, and enjoyed watching his favorite actor, the “Duke”, John Wayne.
Jim touched the lives of many with his warm smile and generous spirit. He devoted his life to helping others and always put the needs of those around him first. He loved animals and the family pets over the years. Jim will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Brown, sister Lynn (Ron) Sunne, Stoughton, WI; brothers Charles (Vicki) Ahlgrim, Milan, IL, and Jon (Tina) Ahlgrim, Tucson, AZ; nieces and nephews, Krysta, Kaia, Will, Erin, and Niki, and great-nephews, Isaac, Croix, and Dax.
A memorial service will be held at a later date to honor his life.
