Jon Brent Jerome, a devoted father and dedicated educator, passed away on July 5, 2024. Born to Marvelle Jerome on June 19, 1946, in Carlos, Minnesota, Jon spent his formative years under the care of Marvelle and his grandparents, Pearl and Ernest Jerome.
An alumnus of Madison East High School, Jon furthered his education at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Science in Teaching. Jon had a long and fulfilling career teaching High School Business Education in the School District of Janesville from 1968 until his retirement in 2005. Jon served as Assistant Summer School Director from 1990 to 2007. Jon also served as President of the Wisconsin Teachers’ Union, advocating for students, families and fellow educators.
For most of his life, Jon was an active guy. He enjoyed biking, camping, road tripping, and checking out different festivals (think Garlic Fest not Burning Man). He walked four miles nearly every day and spoke of starting a Grandpa Scooter Gang.
Jon’s proudest title was “Dad”. He instilled in his children a strong work ethic, the importance of service to others, and a raucous sense of humor. He quietly supported them on their way to many successes in the classroom, athletics, the arts, their careers, and with their own families.
Jon is survived by his daughters, Kerrie Jerome and Beth Johnson (Son-in-law, Jess), Daughter-in-law, Kristen Jerome, and 7 grandchildren: Augustus Hinch, Alexis Hinch, Aaliyah Hinch, Amiya Hinch, Dacey Johnson, Eleanor Jerome and Jon Parks Jerome.
He was preceded in death by his son, Brent Jerome, and his brother, Gary Jerome.
The family wishes to thank Renaissance Senior Living of Hilldale who brought ease, comfort and community in his final days.
A service is planned for September 28 at Midvale Community Lutheran Church, 4329 Tokay Blvd, Madison, WI 53711 at 3:00 pm. Following the service, family and friends will gather to tell stories and raise a glass to a really fine man (location TBD). In lieu of flowers, the family requests you lend a helping hand to a friend or stranger, and every Fall, remind your loved ones that wet leaves can be just as slick as ice.
