Laura Burno, age 89, of Stoughton, WI passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Milestone Senior Living Center in Stoughton, WI on August 10, 2024. Laura was born as Shirley Jackowitz on March 14, 1935, in Fort Atkinson, WI. She had resided in Stoughton since 2004 when she married her husband, Peter Burno, on June 16, 2004.
For many years, Laura helped her mother, Laura Jackowitz with their restaurant, HiWay Eats, in Fort Atkinson. She also spent many years with the Fort Atkinson Police Department as a dispatcher. She retired from UW-Whitewater where she was a program assistant for the Department of Communicative Disorders. Both were fitting positions for her as she was known for always keeping accurate lists and was a stickler for proper grammar. Even in her declining years she still maintained those skills.
In addition to her husband Peter, she is survived by her daughters, Wendy Overturf and Jan Hauser, and her son, David Rohde. Laura fondly liked to be called "Mumpy" by her grandchildren: Deanna Lawler, Derek Lemke, Justin Rohde, Andrea Kemp, Jeffrey Hauser, Matthew Hauser, and Daniel Hauser. She also had on great-grandchild, Jack Kemp. She is also survived by her sister, Bonnie Krueger. Her mother, Laura, predeceased her in death.
The family wishes to convey their utmost appreciation for the loving care she received at Milestone Senior Living Center. While she will be deeply missed by her family, it is comforting to know that her time there was one of happiness and contentment.
As per her request, there will be no services.
