Lucy L. Pennington, formerly of Asheville, NC, passed away on Monday evening, October 31, 2022 in Cottage Grove, WI. She was 87 years old and had been suffering from Alzheimer's Disease for several years. Lucy was born May 24, 1935 to the late Richard L. and Helen (Ledford) Beattie in Tulsa, OK where she attended the Cincinnati Avenue Christian Church. Following her graduation from Tulsa Central High School in 1953, Lucy was employed as a geophysical draftsman with Amerada Petroleum Corporation where she met her future husband Wallace E. "Red" Pennington. Following their marriage in Lovington, NM in 1956, Lucy and Red raised their family of three children in Tulsa, OK and New Providence, NJ before retiring in Asheville. Lucy was a gifted and accomplished artist and during her years in Tulsa found frequent employment drawing advertisements for local department stores. Later she became an accomplished sculptor, winning several regional awards and selling a number of pieces. Lucy was predeceased by her husband, her parents, her siblings Diana Ritchie and Dick Beattie, her grandson Sam Pennington, her son-in-law Jon Tyndall, and her brothers-in-law Dean Rutherford and Jim Ritchie. She was also predeceased by her companion Ray Selsor. She is survived by her children Rod (Janice) Pennington of Oregon, WI, Rick (Patrice) Pennington of Guilford, VT and Polly Tyndall of Hampton, NJ; grandchildren Katie (Dan) Hallberg, Andie Pennington, John Pennington, and Michael Pennington; great grandchildren Henry and Lucy Hallberg; siblings Pattie Rutherford of Clovis, CA, Cindy (Ken) Dasher of Tulsa, OK, and Andrea (Don) Madison; sister-in-law Cindy Beattie; and many friends, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lucy dearly loved her family, and her welcoming nature and sense of humor will be remembered by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg, WI or to the charity of your choice. A memorial service will be planned on a later date.
