Richard “Rick” Godt passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family.
Rick shared a lifelong love story with his beloved wife, Shirley A. (Scott) Godt. They were first married on September 4, 1962, and after finding their way back to one another, remarried on April 20, 2002. Together they built a family that remained the center of Rick’s life.
He is lovingly survived by his devoted wife, Shirley Godt; his five daughters, Tricia (Bruce) Borchardt, Michelle (Alan) Anckner, Veronica Dawn Godt (Matt Otto), Deborah Kelley, and Amy Heggie; his brothers, Jim (Beverly) Godt and David (Betty) Godt; and his sisters, Glenda Olson, Sherrie (Doug) Lien, Candy (Ken) Ziemer, and Melody (Gordon) Chapman.
Rick was a proud grandfather to Scott (Sara) Borchardt, Aaron Borchardt, Samantha (Tyler) Vaughn, Ricky (Courtney) Brockmiller, Kiris (Todd) Dorr, Sheree (Jeff) Rayford, KC (Derek) Gibson, Trish (Brad) Vyse, Ericka Rolack, Brandon Rees, Adelynn Heggie, and Garrett Bussiere.
He was also blessed with great-grandchildren Taft Strickland Jr., Jayvon Scott, Rhylee Rayford, Shelby, Shiloh, Silas, and Sadie Gibson; Payton and Paisley Brockmiller; Ruby and Abram Vaughn; Landon Rees; Greyson, Chancellor, and Easton Vyse; MaKenna Reimer; Adilyn Anckner; and Annabelle, Roman, and Thea Borchardt. Each brought him tremendous joy and was a treasured part of his legacy.
Rick was preceded in death by his adoptive father, Glen Godt; his biological father, Joseph Wright; his mother, Dorotha Godt; his sister, Gloria Guy; his brother, Charles Godt; his sister-in-law, Dyanne Godt; his brother-in-law, Allen Olson; his beloved grandson, Daniel Timothy Alan Anckner; and his nephew, Keith Ziemer.
A man of Christian faith, Rick enjoyed cars, camping, and the simple pleasures of life. Above all else, he loved his family. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, gentle heart, steadfast love for Shirley, and the countless memories he created with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family.
His legacy lives on through the generations who were blessed to know and love him.
The family invites everyone who knew and loved Rick to celebrate his life in whatever way feels meaningful to them. Share a favorite story, take a scenic drive, enjoy a camping trip or gather around a campfire with those you love, lend a helping hand to someone in need, say a prayer, or simply spend a quiet moment remembering the man whose life touched so many.
