Timothy John Smith

Timothy J. Smith, age 73, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, after a short illness. He was born on May 12, 1952, at Stoughton Hospital in Stoughton, Wisconsin. He was the 5th of 8 children born to William Leroy Smith, Sr. and Violet June (Peterson/Smith) Osland.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather Clarence ‘Chink’ L. Osland, his older brother William Leroy Smith, Jr, an infant brother Roger, his grandparents, and all of his Aunts and Uncles. He is survived by a son Joshua Rae and brothers Steven (Racqual), Dennis and Marc (Tammy); sisters Susan (Lars) and Cathryn (Adrian) and sister-in-law Kathleen, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He worked for many years in construction while living in Northern California. After an accident injured his back, he moved back to Stoughton and worked as a bartender at a number of establishments in the Stoughton area.

Known as ‘Shitty’ to his friends, he enjoyed talking sports, pool, and golf in his later years and could often be found downtown discussing them. His entertaining and competitive spirit will be missed by friends and family alike.

The family of Timothy would like to express gratitude to the entire staff who cared for Tim at UW and Meriter Hospitals during his final hospital stays. The family also expresses heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Nazareth Health and Rehabilitation Center and St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate and loving care in the last days of his life.

No formal services are planned at this time. A private family inurnment and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
